The Longmont Recreation Center is a huge complex with two pools, basketball, volleyball and badminton courts in a large gymnasium, a fitness area, an aerobics room and weight room, as well as a 30 foot high, 1000 square feet climbing wall. The center is available for rent for private parties and events. The St. Vrain Memorial Building is in Longmont's Historic District and is another place to get a great indoor workout. Both facilities offer additional classes on such topics as photography, painting and tips for a healthy lifestyle.

All of the public swimming pools are great amenities for people who live in Longmont apartments, especially if your complex doesn't offer one. The Centennial Swimming Pool is indoor, while the Roosevelt Activity Pool, Sunset Pool, Kanemoto Activity Pool and the Union Reservoir Swim Beach are there to enjoy the summer sun and swim.

Longmont has an awesome 4th of July Fireworks celebration every year, in addition to Rhythm on the River, an annual event in July that features live music, food and vendors. The excellent Concert in the Park series for the summer takes place at Roosevelt Park on Tuesdays, the Longmont Cultural Center on Wednesdays and Downtown on Thursdays. A Halloween Parade, the Longmont Triathlon and the Turkey Trot are all fall events that bring out the crowds.
